Happy Birthday DTM!!!

It is DTM's birthday and you KNOW we're going to party! And by party I mean get Chinese food and fall asleep at 10 pm instead of 9 pm. However, there are a few unfortunate things happening:

1) I have class till 10pm tonight.
2) DTM's gift from me has not yet arrived in the mail.

If I was a better wife, I would have thrown a Battlestar Galactica themed party, though I am not sure who we'd invite other than our friends Jim and Christina. I know only a few people that appreciate BSG as much as DTM and me.

Happy frakkin' birthday, skinjob.
Anyway, we are going to have a great weekend. I love you so much DTM and I am so glad to have spent the last 9 birthdays with you (WHAT?!?!?!?). Cheers!

Hip to be Square

Huey Lewis, you're a lyrical genius!
I went to the doctor's yesterday. She sent me to a chiropractor, who, it turns out, is AWESOME! I am always amazed at how they read the human body. Dr. Davis, the chiropractor, spent exactly 2.3 seconds looking at my lower back and hips, then said "Does it hurt here?" while poking my back in the exact location of the pain. How in the world did he do that? He then proceeded to hook me up to this fabulous machine that shocked my muscles into relaxing. It was like a little massage where NO ONE had to touch me. Fantastic.

They aren't living long and prospering...
He did some spinal manipulation and required me to get some x-rays before doing anything to my lower back just in case something else is wrong. I love x-rays (although I would not recommend doing a search for them on Google Images--creepy). I wish I had the x-ray of my broken collarbone. So. Cool. I go back on Monday. This is good because my muscles started spasming again and I can barely sit today. In fact, I am standing in the kitchen with the computer on the washer typing this. Classy.

I took yesterday off from the gym to try to rest my back a little. Today I was very careful, since it was a lifting day.

Bench Press

Ring Dips

I went super light on the Deadlifts, trying 115, but moving back down to 95 for my 1 work set of 5 reps. I also did not go as heavy on Bench Press either, again doing 95 for my 3 work sets for 5 reps. Awesome. I always wanted to be able to Bench my Deadlift weight. ::rolls eyes::

The rest of the WOD wasn't too bad. The goal was for the whole class to finish in under 10 minutes and they did! That is exciting! I used the red band for assisted Ring Dips and finished in 7:45.

Yelling Dreams and Overhead Squats

Do you ever remember your dreams? I don't know why, but I have unusually vivid, strange dreams. I also have several recurring dreams. One includes me losing all my teeth. Why? I have no idea. Another one includes DTM breaking up with me and then not talking to me (are we in junior high?). Most recently, my third type of recurring dream has slightly morphed, but has the same theme. In college, especially in times of particular stress, I would have these terrible dreams where I would be screaming hateful, hurtful things at people I love. I would then wake up sobbing because of the terrible things I said in my dream. The last 2 nights have had this theme, except I am not the one yelling. I am watching someone yelling at someone else. The first night it was a friend yelling at her husband for something ridiculous and completely unrealistic. Last night it was my sister yelling because she had a giant bug on her and she thought it was going to eat her baby. I like to think The Babe (as I like to call him--yes, she really is pregnant with a little boy) would react to the bug attack like this:

I am kind of excited about him, can't you tell?

Anyway, I digress. I am a little stressed, I suppose. I have my first test of this semester on Friday and I recently learned that my A&P professor is not as excellent as I would like her to be. Hopefully that is what is contributing to the yelling dreams and not some weird health problem.

I have good news, though. I made it through Monday's WOD without much modification AND without ANY back pain! Whoopee! Today was a different story.

Back Squat

Shoulder Press

Double Unders
Sit Ups

My near disastrous back squat performance last week made me hesitant to do them this week. I got up to 155 on my first of three work sets of 5 reps. I felt my hips and back going, so for the next two work sets, I went down to 135. No point in pushing it. The Shoulder Presses weren't too great either. I topped out at 75# again. I did finish Annie in 11:15, but I did 5x the amount of Singles because I tend to land hard on Double Unders.  Neat.

Monday, January 31

5 Rounds:
KB Swings: 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10
Pull Ups: 30, 25, 25, 15, 10
OHS: 15, 12, 9, 6, 3

The rounds decrease in reps, but that didn't make it easier. I used a 16kg KB for the Swings and did have to stop occasionally to rest my back/hips. I managed to do ALL Kipping Pull Ups, which made me greatly excited. I used 65# for the OHS. I finished in around 28:32. I was just happy to finish at those weights. My back did feel pretty good for the rest of the day!
